Delivery Options and Common Occasions

Most Ottawa florists offer several delivery styles: hand-delivery by a driver, scheduled deliveries for a specific day or time window, contactless drop-off at the doorstep, and occasional curbside pickup. Many shops also arrange subscription deliveries for recurring events or corporate needs. Expect services for birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations, holidays (Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas), get-well and hospital visits, sympathy and funeral tributes, and corporate or event floral work.

Ordering Process and Timing Guidance

Placing an order is straightforward: choose a bouquet or arrangement, select delivery date and any special instructions, and provide the recipient's address and access details. Payment is typically taken at checkout. For same-day delivery, many florists request orders by early to mid afternoon on weekdays—orders placed after local cutoff times are usually scheduled for next-day delivery. Weekends, holidays, and peak dates (such as Valentine's Day and Mother’s Day) require earlier ordering and sometimes a several-day lead time due to high demand.

For custom arrangements or large event orders, contact the florist with at least a few days' notice so they can source specific flowers and prepare design details. If you need flowers delivered to a medical facility or funeral service, allow extra time for entry procedures and confirm delivery instructions during checkout to avoid delays.

What to Expect on Delivery Day

Delivery windows vary by shop; some offer morning or afternoon windows while others provide shorter windows or exact times for an additional fee. If you need guaranteed timing, choose expedited or scheduled delivery options when available and include any access codes or receptionist instructions in the delivery notes. If the recipient isn’t available, florists will usually leave the arrangement in a safe place or with a neighbor per your directions.

Flower Care Tips

Fresh flowers reward simple care. Follow these practical steps to extend vase life:

• Trim stems at a 45-degree angle with clean scissors or a knife before placing them in water to improve uptake.
• Use the packet of flower food provided and change the water every two to three days.
• Remove any leaves that sit below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.
• Keep arrangements in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ripening fruit, which emits ethylene and speeds wilting.
• Re-cut stems and refresh water if the bouquet shows early signs of drooping.

Special Considerations

If you are ordering for a funeral or memorial service, confirm the venue’s delivery rules, timing for placement, and preferred style (standing spray, wreath, or casket spray). For hospital deliveries, check visiting hours and ask whether gift deliveries are accepted in patient rooms; some facilities require deliveries to be left at the nurses’ station. When ordering online, read the florists’ delivery policies for refunds, substitutions, and weather-related delays.

Ottawa florists are experienced at accommodating both last-minute needs and carefully planned events. When in doubt, order earlier rather than later, provide clear delivery instructions, and follow the care tips above to help your flowers look their best for as long as possible.
